Job Description
Senior Producer, News SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Coordinating Producer of News, develop, create and produce innovative network quality television production of SportsDesk and other NESN news shows, as assigned by the coordinating producer and/or executive producer. Manage a production team ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct management responsibility for the performance and work/projects of a production team consisting of production assistants, associate producers and/or producers. Evaluate, review and manage staff’s individual performance, effectively manage personnel issues, maintain a solid understanding of staffs’ individual career interest and developmental needs, and manage accordingly. Train and mentor staff to develop well-rounded skill sets and provide high-quality support to all productions. Work with coordinating producer to manage budget performance of news shows and make cost/benefit decisions for news programs Work with sales to maximize revenue potential of programs Produce live SportsDesk and other news shows to include formatting, editorial and composition; productions will include large, complex, strategic programs. Develop and implement a focused role for all talent assigned to the telecast Develop a comprehensive understanding for the production and programming vision for the network and ensure that news shows are consistent with NESN’s business strategy Continuously improve shows by working with coordinating producers and producers to conduct telecast screenings for the staff and talent to review their work; assure feedback is applied on a consistent basis. Determine production needs and coordinate and schedule resources – personnel and other - effectively Partner with Operations and coordinating producer to ensure technical ops needs are met for each show Provide feedback to coordinating producers and operations managers on staffs’ performance and development needs. Train and mentor staff to develop well-rounded skill sets and provide high-quality support to all productions. Make recommendations to the coordinating producer and/or executive producer for show improvements on a consistent basis throughout the course of the season. Perform other duties as assigned and required by the coordinating and/or executive producers.
